After playing just 73 games in three NBA seasons, John Wall suited up and stepped onto the court. This time, he donned red and white to represent the re-branded Houston Rockets.
He recorded 13 points, nine assists, five rebounds and two steals in a 125-104 blowout preseason win over the Chicago Bulls.
The 30-year-old point guard showed his old skills when driving to the hoop, throwing over the shoulder passes to connect to three-point shooters and hitting contested mid-range jumpers. He even hit a three pointer just to show off his coming-out party.
“I just knew I was back,” John Wall said in a postgame interview. “I know how much hard work I’ve been through the last two year. It was a surreal moment for me even though it was preseason.”
John Wall was traded to Houston for Russell Westbrook this NBA offseason in a plan to re-tool Houston to appease Harden’s growing frustrations. Wall joins newly acquired free agent DeMarcus Cousins and Christian Wood to keep up with the ever-competitive Western Conference. Phoenix, Memphis, Dallas and New Orleans are all up and coming franchises alongside Golden State back in the playoff fold with Steph Curry returning from injury.

Cousins also commented on Wall’s performance in his first preseason game. “I kind of had flashbacks to being back in college where I would get caught up kind of watching the show of John,” said Cousins after the game. “I had a few moments tonight just trying to wait and see what he had up his sleeve next to do. It’s a really cool feeling. I’m glad I’m able to share the floor with a guy I consider my brother.”
Cousins and Wall were collegiate teammates at Kentucky. They both were drafted in the top five in the 2010 NBA draft.
John Wall and his Houston Rockets kick off their season against the Oklahoma City Thunder Dec 23, whether or not James Harden will be there with Wall, Cousins and the rest of the team.
