Jimmy Garoppolo Admits He Was Thinking About Asking For A Trade

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has found himself in a position that no one wants to be in during the NFL offseason.

After the Niners traded up to select Trey Lance in the NFL Draft, Garoppolo now finds himself as a sitting duck, just waiting for the point in time when he’s watching the rookie start games from the bench.

When San Francisco made the move for Lance, Jimmy G says the thought of demanding a trade crossed his mind.

“Oh, no doubt,” Jimmy Garoppolo recently told SI’s Albert Breer when asked if asking for a trade crossed his mind. “Especially when they first told me, you started imagining situations that aren’t even possible. It crossed my mind at one point. But I didn’t want to do that. I like it here. I like the people. I like the teammates that I’m around. It’s kind of where—I don’t want to say it’s where my career started, but as a starter this is where it was. These players, these teammates, I wouldn’t trade them for the world. I love these guys.”

For now, Jimmy Garoppolo is doing his best not to listen to any of the rumors surrounding him.

“You hear all the stuff,” Garoppolo said. “I didn’t know how much to put into it, because if you start thinking one way, and then something happens and you go the opposite way, that’s going to make it even tougher out here. So I’ve really just tried to take it day-by-day. And even right now, anything could happen. I was traded two days before the trade deadline a couple years ago. I know in this league, anything’s possible.”

According to a lot of reports coming out of 49ers Training Camp, Trey Lance is outplaying Jimmy Garoppolo. And fans will undoubtedly start calling for Lance at any moment.

Even if Garoppolo get the nod for Week One, I’d imagine that Lance will be the Niners’ starting quarterback at some point this season.

If that’s the case, look for teams who may suffer injuries at the quarterback position to be calling San Francisco about Jimmy Garoppolo mid-season.
