Jimmy Garoppolo May Reportedly be Done in San Francisco

As 4-5, the San Francisco 49ers struggle to get back into the playoff picture just over halfway through 2020, the biggest question on the Niner faithful’s mind is whether or not head coach Kyle Shanahan fully commits to keeping quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo under center into next year.

What’s the plan if the San Francisco 49ers opt to make a change at quarterback? According to reports, the Niners might have to answer this question sooner than later. It appears the Niners may be done with their former guy. According to one NFL executive, Jimmy is not in their plans moving forward.

“I think he may be done in San Francisco,” the anonymous executive told Mike Sando of The Athletic. “And if they keep him, it’s only because they don’t have another option.”

ESPN’s Steve Young pointed out, Garoppolo is making it difficult for Shanahan’s offense to  reach its maximum potential.

Young’s comments about Garoppolo’s future beyond this season were telling:

The one question coming into this year that you had about the 49ers is can we get to a place where [head coach] Kyle Shanahan, this innovative head coach and one of the best in the league, can find a quarterback that he can trust and just be expansive with rather than protect. I think that’s been the issue with Jimmy, and I think that $25 million dollars and a shrinking salary cap with this injury?

It appears Jimmy G being the quarterback for the 49ers next year isn’t looking too good.
