HBO Releases Teaser Trailer for Tiger Woods Documentary During Masters Week

If you’re HBO and you have a big upcoming Tiger Woods documentary, Masters week is the perfect time to drop a big teaser. The cable giant’s long-gestating Tiger Woods film promises to be “illuminating in sweeping scope and vast detail of the rise, fall, and epic comeback of global icon Tiger Woods.” HBO is anticipating that the documentary will be for Tiger Woods what “The Last Dance” was for Michael Jordan.

Audiences got their first taste in a trailer that hit YouTube today. Woods’ late father Earl features prominently:

“Please forgive me, but sometimes I get very emotional when I talk about my son,” Earl says. “He will transcend this game and bring to the world a humanitarianism which has never been known before.”

Earl’s speech continues, eventually ending with him in tears. As he speaks, we see clips of Tiger Woods’ life from his childhood years to his teenage years to his up-and-down adult years.

“Tiger,” directed by Emmy Award winning filmmaker Matthew Heineman and Emmy nominee Matthew Hamachek, is expected to feature never-before-seen footage and “revealing” interviews with those who know Woods best. Key interviews are include Woods’ ex-caddie Steve Williams and an exclusive with Rachel Uchitel, the woman with whom Tiger had his infamous love affair.

The doc will be released on HBO Max in January 2021.
