Indiana University Reportedly Had A Deal With Thad Matta Fall Through Due To A Failed Physical

It surprised many people in and around college basketball when it was reported that Indiana University was interested in former Ohio State coach Thad Matta for their vacancy.

Now, it’s being reported that IU had a deal in place with Thad Matta, but they were forced to continue with their search after he failed a physical. Matta stepped away from coaching in 2017 due to concerns over his health.

Via Rivals:

“According to sources, Indiana and Thad Matta had agreed to a deal for Matta to become the next men’s basketball coach at Indiana but after failing his physical, the deal has fallen through.”

Some other reports have indicated that the insinuation that Indiana offered Matta the job is simply not true.

While Thad Matta may or may not still be in the mix for the Indiana job, he seems to have thrown his hat into the ring nonetheless.

Matta was extremely successful during his 13-year tenure at Ohio State. He went 337-123 with two National Championship game appearances.

Hopefully Thad Matta gets his health in order, and we can see him back coaching again soon. Whether or not that will be with the Hoosiers remains to be seen.
