Josh Cribbs Recalls Asking ‘Am I Going To Live?’ After Finding Out He Has Brain Trauma

Josh Cribbs has become the latest ex-NFL player to speak candidly about his struggles with brain trauma after his playing days. The former All-Pro went on the Pat McAfee show today and was asked about how he found out he had brain damage.

“They called me in to do these extra test and were like, we don’t know what to call this,” Cribs says about his talks with doctors at a Cleveland clinic. “He basically was like ‘you’re brain is like what a 58-year-olds brain looks like that has been through something, and you’r only 32-years-old'”.

Cribbs goes on to talk about how he feared for his life, while also preparing for a future that will be uncertain.

Scary stuff here.

This is where we’re at with the NFL. If you play, you have to be aware that long-term consequences may be a part of what you’re signing up for. This will make for a very interesting situation in the future.

Roger Goodell and the NFL have teamed with doctors and changed the rules in recent years, with hopes of making the game safer. However, we won’t know how affective their efforts are until the current players are out of the game.

This is something the NFL has to prioritize. Hopefully Josh Cribbs and other current and future NFL players can enjoy a long and healthy life after their playing days are over.
