Before the Knicks’ thrilling comeback win over the Celtics, the raucous crowd was reigning down boos on their team. So when New York surged back, Randle made sure to let the fans hear it right back. On multiple occasions, Randle flashed the “thumbs down” gesture to the crowd after made baskets.

After the game, Julius Randle admitted he was sending a message to his fanbase. He admitted that the sign was meant to tell fans to “shut the f-k up”.

“I really don’t give a f**k what anybody has to say, to be honest,” Randle said of the hand sign. “I’m out there playing. Nobody knows the game out there better than I do, compared to what everybody has to say.”

“So, I really don’t give a s***. I just go out there and play.”

After the game, Charles Barkley condemned Julius Randle on TNT’s “Inside The NBA”.

“I never understand why players think you’re supposed get cheered when you’re playing bad,” Barkley said while discussing the Randle’s “thumbs down” he gave to fans in the fourth quarter of the 108-105 win at Madison Square Garden.

“No, you’re going to get booed when you’re playing bad and you’re going to get cheered when you win,” Barkley said.

Shaq agreed with Sir Charles on the Julius Randle move.

“In a city like New York, if you’re the man on the team, gotta expect it. Heavy is the head that wears the crown,” O’Neal said. “You’re the man. I expect you to play good every night.”

Julius Randle would finish the game with 22 points. And the comeback was capped with a buzzer-beater three from RJ Barrett – sending the Knicks fans from dismay to frenzy.
