Doc Rivers Refuses To Commit To Ben Simmons Following Brutal Postseason

Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons is taking all the heat for his performance during the team’s series loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

Throughout the series, the skilled Simmons was passive and unaggressive. Many Philly fans blamed the entire postseason collapse on Simmons, and have been calling for him to be traded.

While Ben Simmons took a bunch of flak, head coach Doc Rivers isn’t necessarily a popular guy in Philly right now, either. Throughout the past decade Doc has been known to let big playoff leads get squandered, and his Sixers were simply unable to close all playoffs long.

After the Game Seven loss, Doc Rivers was asked if he felt Ben Simmons could be the point guard on a championship-caliber team. He kind of decided to throw Simmons under the bus.

“I don’t know the answer to that right now,” Rivers told reporters.

It’s looking more and more likely that Ben Simmons will be playing elsewhere next season. As for Doc Rivers? If he doesn’t get instant results next year, fans will be calling for his head, too.

Ben Simmons is the perfect scapegoat for this postseason (he was pretty awful). But if Doc Rivers can’t get the Sixers over the hump with a new point guard next year, he’ll be packing his bags as well.
