There was a whole lot of buzz surrounding where former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields would go in the 2021 NFL Draft. Some analysts were surprised that he fell all the way to the Chicago Bears at No. 12 overall.
Others weren’t so sure that he fell far enough.

While there are certainly some questions that need to be answered regarding Fields’ game, one challenge that he apparently passed with flying colors is the mental aptitude test.

Not only did Fields score in the top 1%, but according to USA TODAY Sports’ Bears Wire, he scored the highest ever. Looks like Da Bears found themselves a smarty pants!
While this news on just how well Justin Fields scored on the mental aptitude test has only recently surfaced, reports that the former Buckeye performed extremely well had already been circulating.
Mark Sanchez discussed Fields’ aptitude test performance as a guest on the Pat McAfee Show back in early April. Wait a minute… the tweet from the show account on April 6th states that Fields did in fact achieve the highest score ever!

If you’re looking for unfiltered sports journalism in 2021, it really starts and ends with the Pat McAfee Show. Perhaps some more NFL scouts and front office executives should tune in more often!
Justin Fields officially scored a 130 on the mental aptitude test. Taken prior to the NFL Draft, the test aims to gauge a player’s mental capacity and success rate when it comes to the number of reps it takes to learn something and also their ability to recall it and execute later.

For comparison’s sake, Fields’ score of 130 dwarfs even those of two of the NFL’s brightest young quarterbacks. Both Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen scored 108 on their pre-draft aptitude tests.

Then there’s that post-draft tweet from NBC Sports Chicago. While I still refuse to go so far as to say I agree with it, Justin Fields certainly deserves some props for his intelligence.
And hey, if brainpower is what we’re going by, maybe the Chicago Bears did in fact land the steal of the draft after all!
