Andy Reid Wants Answers On Why Eric Bieniemy Wasn’t Hired As A Head Coach

Eric Bieniemy has been a top assistant in the NFL ever since he became the Chiefs offensive coordinator in 2018. For whatever reason, he still hasn’t gotten a head coaching job in the league. While teams like the Lions, Eagles and Texans went with outside-the-box hires, Bieniemy remains.

All of this begs the question–why? Are teams worried Bieniemy might not be interested? Is he bad in interviews? Is there racism involved? Chiefs head coach Andy Reid wants answers to those questions as well.

“I did have the opportunity to talk to a lot of the either owners or General Managers that worked to interview him, presidents and so on,” Reid told reporters on Tuesday regarding Bieniemy, via James Palmer of NFL Media. “So I’ll be curious to hear their comments about how he did or why he wasn’t picked.”

Eric Bieniemy is loved by his players, too. Patrick Mahomes recently threw shade at any team that doesn’t pounce on the opportunity to make him a head coach.

“His track record speaks for itself,” Mahomes said of Bieniemy. “The type of man he is, the way he can control and be a leader of the locker room and the way that he coaches and schemes he brings to us. If he doesn’t, people are crazy.”

It’ll be wait till next year, as we all will be curious to see if Eric Bieniemy will land a head coaching gig. Maybe he’ll even have another Super Bowl ring by then.
