In the series clinching Game 5 for the Tampa Bay Lightning, goalie Andre Vasilevskiy didn’t just turn away every shot the Hurricanes threw his way, he made the shutout look somewhat easy.
Over the past few seasons, Vasilevskiy has asserted himself as the top goaltender in the entire NHL, and any team that has the unfortunate draw to face him in a playoff series now knows they’re going up against a tall task.
After the Hurricanes lost Game Five 2-0, Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour had a prolonged moment with Andrei Vasilevskiy in the hand shake line.

After the game, Brind’Amour had even more praise for the Tampa Bay goalie.

To put Andre Vasilevskiy in the same breath as Dominik Hasek is an amazing compliment. And perhaps Rod Brind’Amour is correct.
If Andre Vasilevskiy is able to continue his dominance throughout the NHL Playoffs, and lead Tampa Bay to back-to-back Stanley Cups, it might be time to start to think about his place in history with some of the best to ever do it.
