Video: Dallas Cowboys Lose Left Tackle Tyron Smith After Suffering Torn Hamstring

The Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line is one man down

Superstar left tackle Tyron Smith suffered a torn hamstring while making a typical block during practice, according to ESPN. Another report from NFL Network clarified that Smith actually suffered an avulsion fracture in his knee, which involves the hamstring tendon tearing off the bone.

“Cowboys standout LT Tyron Smith actually suffered an avulsion fracture of the knee, meaning the hamstring tendon that sits at the back of the knee pulled off the bone and he needs surgery, sources say. If he’s back at all, it’ll be December.”

Smith got hurt on a running play and went to the ground as he went to make a block on linebacker Leighton Vander Esch. He was able to walk to the locker room without any help, and the initial tests indicated the ACL in his left knee was intact.

Check out the video of the injury below:

According to NFL Insider Jonathan Jones, the current plan is to replace Smith with one of the in-house options, but the Cowboys will monitor roster moves around the league and determine whether they need to go out and try to get another O-Lineman.

With LT Tyron Smith out for several months, the initial plan now for the Cowboys is to shuffle guys in-house. Dallas will monitor roster moves around the league after this weekend and determine whether acquiring an OL is in its best interest.

The 31-year-old Cowboys player has dealt with numerous injury issues over the past several seasons, he’s missed at least three games every year since 2016.

Tough break for Dem Boys.
