Rumor: Matt Nagy May Be Fired Following The Packers Game This Weekend

Could this finally be the last game of Matt Nagy’s tenure with the Chicago Bears?

I know, we did this already.

During Thanksgiving week, it was heavily reported that Nagy was going to be fired regardless of the outcome against the Lions.

That turned out not to be the case when Bears ownership caught wind of the rumor and either decided to change plans, or actually never planned to fire him to begin with (like they claimed).

But now, another Bears insider is claiming that Nagy might actually be coaching his last game this weekend.

Per Adam Hoge of NBC Sports Chicago:

“SUNDAY’S GAME AT LAMBEAU ISN’T JUST THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME FOR MATT NAGY BECAUSE IT’S THE NEXT GAME ON THE SCHEDULE. IT MIGHT AS WELL BE THE ONLY GAME LEFT ON THE SCHEDULE. AND IT MIGHT BE.

MAYBE THE BEARS COME TO PLAY AND PULL OFF A DRAMATIC UPSET ON NATIONAL TELEVISION. BUT IF IT GOES THE OTHER WAY — THE WAY IT USUALLY GOES AGAINST THE PACKERS — YOU HAVE TO WONDER IF A CHANGE COULD BE MADE AS SOON AS NEXT WEEK.”

Sure, the Bears might not actively plan to fire Matt Nagy next Monday. But we all know the most likely scenario that takes place when the Bears head to Lambeau Field for Sunday Night Football is that they, once again, get utterly embarrassed on National television.

Everyone and their mother knows Nagy is already a dead man walking, which begs the question: what exactly are the Bears waiting for.

The team is doing their upcoming coaching search no good by keeping around a lame-duck coach through the end of the season. And perhaps they’ll finally come to their senses and let go of Matt Nagy following another loss to the rival Packers.
