Urban Meyer Tries to Downplay Story, Instead Adds Fuel to Fire

Remember that story about Urban Meyer not knowing star players around the league?

A report from The Athletic back in March said Urban Meyer asked a Jaguars staffer: “Who’s this 99 guy on the Rams? I’m hearing he might be a problem for us.” According to The Athletic, “multiple sources” said Meyer was unfamiliar with a few NFL stars on other teams too.

Appearing on “The Tim May Podcast,” Meyer denied the story of him not knowing Donald. Well, sort of.

Here’s the back-and-forth on Donald between May and Meyer (it comes at the 29-minute mark of the video):

“First of all, there’s no way you didn’t know who Aaron Donald was, right?” May asked.

“When I heard … someone told me that,” Meyer said. “I’ve heard silly things before in my life. It’s almost, you shouldn’t even address stuff like that it’s so silly.”

“I asked Ryan Day that facetiously at a press conference a few weeks ago and he laughed,” May said. “The bottom line, the point was ‘Are you stupid? This man knew who Aaron Donald was.'”

That half hearted denial during a friendly interview is pretty telling.

So what if Meyer didn’t know a player who will retire as one of the greatest defensive players ever.

What a joke.
