Pete Carroll Gives Surprising Answer When Asked About Quarterback Decisions During NFL Draft

Pete Carroll must be content with the quarterback room he has in place right now.

Despite many believing the Seahawks would select the replacement to Russell Wilson in this week’s draft, Carroll and the team’s brass have opted to fill other hols thus far.

As of now, the team has former Broncos quarterback Drew Lock and last year’s backup Geno Smith to work with. It’s widely believed that the Seahawks would roll with Lock if the season were to start right now. But Carroll was indicating otherwise when speaking during the draft.

“The competition is underway,” Carroll told reporters, via ProFootballTalk. “Geno has come in and is obviously ahead going in because he’s had all the background with us. He’s been with us for a number of years. He leads the charge right now. He’s in command of our system as much as a guy could be.”

Even though the continuity Geno Smith gives might give him a leg up right now, Pete Carroll didn’t slam the door on the possibility of starting Drew Lock.

“We’ve been able to see Drew in great depth. We’ve seen everything,” Carroll added. “We went all the way back to all his college days and everything else. Every throw he’s ever thrown to show us what he’s capable of doing. We’re fitting it together. It’s going to be a really strong, competitive group and we’re going to be smart.”

After passing on Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis, Pete Carroll is making it clear that he thinks he can win with the two quarterbacks he currently has. But I don’t think anyone would be surprised if they continue to add before the season gets underway.
