Report Links One Team To Drew Brees Following Cryptic Tweet

Is Drew Brees really considering a return to the NFL?

After NBC pulled the plug on Brees after just one season, the former QB took to social media to send a message that had many wondering if he was contemplating an NFL return.

ā€œDespite speculation from media about my future this fall, Iā€™m currently undecided. I may work for NBC, I may play football again, I may focus on business and philanthropy, I may train for the pickleball tour, senior golf tour, coach my kids or all of the above. Iā€™ll let you know,” he tweeted.

Now, NBC’s Peter King is reporting that one team might be ‘desperate enough’ to sign Drew Brees.

Via NBCSports.com:

ā€œEven if they [Saints] wanted Brees to return, and I have no indication they would, would they want to mortgage the future again to get him back?ā€

ā€œAs for other teams, the Seahawks might fit despite their talking-up of Drew Lock, and the Panthers could be just desperate enough to make a run at Brees. But weā€™re getting way ahead of ourselves. Would any team want a 43-year-old Brees, whoā€™d have to rehab after left shoulder surgery? And was Brees just throwing out a misdirection play with his tweets?ā€

New Saints head coach Dennis Allen wasn’t exactly sold that Drew Brees was plotting an NFL return based on his cryptic tweet.

ā€œMy wifeā€™s the one that told me about it because I donā€™t follow social media. So I thought, Thatā€™s interesting, thatā€™ll bring up some questions,ā€ Allen said of Breesā€™ tweet. ā€œI think it was a comment made in jest and we certainly havenā€™t had any conversations in that regard.ā€

I gotta agree with Allen that it’s a huge long shot that Drew Brees would actually come out of retirement at this point. But perhaps the Seahawks will kick the tires just to make sure.
