Report Links One Team To Drew Brees Following Cryptic Tweet

Is Drew Brees really considering a return to the NFL?

After NBC pulled the plug on Brees after just one season, the former QB took to social media to send a message that had many wondering if he was contemplating an NFL return.

“Despite speculation from media about my future this fall, I’m currently undecided. I may work for NBC, I may play football again, I may focus on business and philanthropy, I may train for the pickleball tour, senior golf tour, coach my kids or all of the above. I’ll let you know,” he tweeted.

Now, NBC’s Peter King is reporting that one team might be ‘desperate enough’ to sign Drew Brees.

Via NBCSports.com:

“Even if they [Saints] wanted Brees to return, and I have no indication they would, would they want to mortgage the future again to get him back?”

“As for other teams, the Seahawks might fit despite their talking-up of Drew Lock, and the Panthers could be just desperate enough to make a run at Brees. But we’re getting way ahead of ourselves. Would any team want a 43-year-old Brees, who’d have to rehab after left shoulder surgery? And was Brees just throwing out a misdirection play with his tweets?”

New Saints head coach Dennis Allen wasn’t exactly sold that Drew Brees was plotting an NFL return based on his cryptic tweet.

“My wife’s the one that told me about it because I don’t follow social media. So I thought, That’s interesting, that’ll bring up some questions,” Allen said of Brees’ tweet. “I think it was a comment made in jest and we certainly haven’t had any conversations in that regard.”

I gotta agree with Allen that it’s a huge long shot that Drew Brees would actually come out of retirement at this point. But perhaps the Seahawks will kick the tires just to make sure.
