Baker Mayfield Now Being Linked to Another NFC Team

Baker Mayfield won’t be on the Cleveland Browns forever.

The Browns will either release him, or try to trade him, but no one is going to trade with the Browns to acquire him, unless they’re willing to take on all the money he’s owed. Baker has been linked to the Panthers more than any other team. Now he’s being linked to a new team. ESPN’s Dan Graziano spoke to some NFL executives around the league about how the Mayfield situation will be resolved, and possible places he’ll end up at. One team mentioned was the Minnesota Vikings, potentially as an option for the future.

Via ESPN:

“As mandatory minicamps continue through next week — with both Garoppolo and Mayfield excused by their teams from attending — we took a straw poll of league executives, coaches and agents to find out what people think will happen. Here’s a rundown of what we’ve been told, ending with a consensus on the most likely landing spots for each:”

It’s all about letting Baker sit for a year, but we know he’s probably not going to be  interested in being a backup. With the Vikings likely to move on from Kirk Cousins after the 2022 season, Mayfield could be their guy.  Mayfield will also be a free agent following the 2022 season, so the Vikings could give him a deal that aligns with his value.

Who really knows where Baker will end up, but it’s always fun to speculate.
