Darvin Ham Appears To Send Warning Shot To Russell Westbrook For Next Season

To this point, Lakers new head coach Darvin Ham has said all the right things about Russell Westbrook. But perhaps his latest comments are sending a message to the point guard.

When appearing on the “All The Smoke” podcast, Ham talked about having Lakers players buy-in to his plan, and it seemed like he was taking a direct warning shot to Russ.

“Competing at a high level. We’re going to be together. The most together team always does well, always wins at the end of the day. And accountability. We’re going to be tough. We’re going to be defensive-minded. That’s the side of the ball where you’re going to see the quickest and most drastic improvement and we’re going to share offensively.

“Again, we want everybody all in on what we’re doing. We don’t want anybody that’s second-guessing being a Laker or ‘Am I in the right place?’ or this, that and the third.”

In the past, Darvin Ham has indicated that he wants Russell Westbrook to be more defensive-minded in his approach next season. And in return, there have been plenty of questions about the point guard’s willingness to buy-in to the new system.

Still, Westbrook has been around the Lakers all throughout Summer League. And for now, it seems like he has a fine relationship with Darvin Ham.

But I don’t think it would surprise anybody if Russell Westbrook is wearing a different uniform come next season.
