New York Yankees Prospect Cut For Allegedly Stealing From Teammates, Defrauding Fans

The New York Yankees had to part ways with prospect Jake Sanford, who at one point was a legitimate hitting prospect.

Now the slugger is out the door for getting caught doing some pretty unsavory things.

The Yankees cut Sanford after he allegedly sold teammates gear and equipment online, while also occasionally swiping it from their lockers, according to Brendan Kuty of NJ.com.

Via NJ.com:

“The Yankees considered Jake Sanford a legitimate hitting prospect who could hit with power and play both corner outfield positions. Among his teammates, however, he was known for stealing.

The Yankees cut Sanford over allegations that he repeatedly hounded teammates for their equipment to sell online, while also occasionally swiping it from their lockers, a person with knowledge of the situation told NJ Advance Media on Wednesday. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak publicly.”

The Yankees selected the Western Kentucky University player with a third-round pick back in the 2019 MLB draft. He received a 600k signing bonus.

Last season Jake Sanford played with Single A Tampa and High-A Hudson Valley and hit .285 batting average, .823 OPS, with 16 home runs and 61 RBI.
