Stephen A. Smith Worries Sex Drive Will Tempt Players To Burst The Bubble In Orlando

We’re exactly a month away from the second act of the 2020 NBA season. People are overjoyed to have live sports back in action, but there are some definite concerns. Underlying concerns about the NBA season reboot were discussed on ESPN’s First Take. The coronavirus, of course, is the main concern. Stephen A. Smith, on the other hand, is more concerned about the players’ need for “certain recreational activities.” Aka sex.

This kind of statement does not surprise me coming from someone with the audacity of a Stephen A. Smith. Having said that, I can’t say that he is entirely wrong. We’re talking about over a hundred men, primarily under 30, in Orlando, in the height of the Summer, spending months without their female counterparts. You are fooling yourself if you think for a moment that being in a bubble environment with a bunch of other men is going to keep them from thinking about sex. Men are horny. It’s a biological fact.

But I dare not be sexist. Women like sex equally as much as men (if not more). Especially around a certain time of the month, but that’s a separate conversation. Former NCAA Champion at Duke and Chicago Bull Jay Williams responded candidly to Stephen A.’s concerns about the players’ need for sex. “They’re allowed to bring their significant other down there after a month,” said Williams. Stephen A. Smith responded eagerly. “Hey listen, after a month. I just said forget about three months” said Stephen A. “They’re gonna struggle with three weeks!”

First Take mediator Molly Querim was quite embarrassed to be in the middle of a sex discussion in the company of three men on live television. I get it, but Molly, if you have any doubts about the validity of Stephen A.’s claims just ask your former NBA star husband, Jalen Rose. The fact of the matter is that coronavirus isn’t going to stop young men from wanting to have sex. Stephen A. Smith is 100% right about this. Unfortunately, global pandemics don’t have the power to diminish the male sex drive. If I know one thing, it’s that James Harden really better work on exercising restraint.
