Top 5 Potential Landing Spots For Deshaun Watson

After a lot of speculation Deshaun Watson has, indeed, demanded to be traded away from the Houston Texans. With the NFL world buzzing with the news of the young star quarterback hitting the market, let’s take a look at some potential landing spots.

1. New York Jets

The New York Jets makes a lot of sense for Deshaun Watson. It was reported that he was impressed with the Robert Saleh hire, and would be open to playing for him. The Jets also have the assets to trade to the Texans. New York currently holds the #2 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. That means they can trade the team Sam Darnold, the #2 pick, and future draft picks for Watson. He’d get to play in a big market, which would be a slam dunk for Watson and the league.

2. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers haven’t committed to Jimmy Garoppolo as their quarterback for next season, and I’m willing to bet that they’re making some phone calls to Houston. The 49ers have a good roster. They were plagued by injuries, and couldn’t recover this season. But remember, this team is just one year removed from a Super Bowl appearance. Adding Deshaun Watson would turn the 49ers from a playoff team to a Super Bowl front-runner.

3. New England Patriots

You think Bill Belichick is licking his chops at the idea of Deshaun Watson coming over to Foxboro? I’m sure he’s had enough of hearing about the Tom Brady divorce, and how badly he screwed up the whole situation. Getting Deshaun Watson cures all of that. Deshaun Watson in Josh McDaniels’ offense would mean trouble for the rest of the league. They might not have the weapons on offense, but adding Deshaun Watson would bring them out of mediocrity real quick.

I know, the Dolphins have committed to Tua Tagovailoa as “their guy” for next season. However, Deshaun Watson hitting the market could change all of that. While it was just Tua’s first year, he wasn’t overly impressive. Despite Tua’s shortcomings, the Dolphins proved that they can win. They have a roster that is ready to compete right now, and Deshaun Watson would take them to the next level.

5. Washington Football Team

I was in between Washington, Chicago, Denver, and Carolina for the fifth potential destination for Deshaun Watson. I landed on Washington because they seem to be the most stable organization of the bunch. They have a great coach, a great defense, and good weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Nobody is on the “hot seat”, they just need to find their franchise quarterback. Deshaun Watson could be that guy.

I’m sure we’ll run into some “mystery teams” along the way but I’d be surprised if Deshaun Watson doesn’t end up with one of these five teams. It doesn’t happen everyday where a star quarterback hits the market in his prime. So many teams would be lucky to land a quarterback of Deshaun Watson’s caliber. Time will tell where he ends up.
