Tony La Russa Will Serve One Day of House Arrest for DUI

Recently hired Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa was in court to answer for his February DUI arrest in Phoenix, Arizona. LaRussa pled guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving and will serve one day of house arrest.

“Mr. La Russa knows he made a mistake last February and deeply regrets it,” La Russa’s counsel, Larry Kazan, said in a statement obtained by The Athletic. “He is embarrassed and concerned. He knows what he did was wrong.”

LaRussa was initially charged following his admission to drinking wine prior to wrecking his car in February. Both an on-site breathalyzer and later bloodwork confirmed that he was well over the legal blood-alcohol limit at the time of the accident.

The White Sox skipper will have to complete 20 hour of community service, along with paying a fine of $1,383. Kazan said La Russa completed alcohol counseling at Scottsdale Treatment in Arizona.

Back in 2007, Tony La Russa pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge in Jupiter, Fla.

“Mr. La Russa knows he made a mistake last February and deeply regrets it. He is embarrassed and concerned. He knows what he did was wrong,” La Russa’s attorney, Lawrence Kazan, said in a statement, via the Chicago Sun-Times.

“The charge was reduced because Mr. La Russa was found to be over the legal threshold by a small amount,” Kazan wrote. “Nevertheless, Mr. La Russa understands that any amount over the limit is too much.”

The Chicago White Sox were aware of both incidents prior to hiring La Russa this offseason. Sounds like time for repeat offender Tony La Russa to either kick the drinking habit or hire a chauffer, before he kills himself or someone else.
