We’re just a few weeks away from the NBA season restart and Heat big Meyers Leonard, aka “The Hammer” has made the headlines yet again. There may not be any women in the NBA bubble at Disney, but the players aren’t lacking in the “recreational activity” department. Pelicans guard J.J. Redick went viral for chugging a beer in an ice bath after a workout. It was impressive for an old man, but the hammer flexed his young guns and showed Redick how it’s done.

Sorry meant to post this earlier. Multitasking post practice. @budlight @NBABubbleLife pic.twitter.com/pBsau1SHoQ

The Hammer said he was willing to accept challenges and Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson was quick to answer the call. Leonard has a sizeable weight advantage on Clarkson, but sometimes big things come in small packages. I highly doubt Clarkson dethrones the bubble king in terms of chugging speed. However, the presentation is a different story. I give The Hammer an A+ for the shotgun, but the can opening technique was pretty suspect. J.J. Redick may be the superior shooter, but these young guys aren’t too far removed from college. They’ll win a shotgun race 10 times out of 10.
The players appear to be having a blast in the bubble. How couldn’t you at a place like Disney World? Having said that, there is a bit of side story in the books. Some of the players, like the Nuggets’ Troy Daniels and Lakers’ Rajon Rondo, were dissatisfied with the accommodations in the bubble. Rondo, who recently suffered a potential bubble-ending injury, compared his five-star hotel to a Motel 6. ESPN’s Jay Williams had a little something to say about the players’ grievances with the bubble.
We all have the right to complain but doing it publicly is different issue. I donβt need some of my #NBA brothers complaining publicly about quality of living & food accomodations in a billion dollar bubble during a pandemic. Tell me your thoughts. pic.twitter.com/cm9JARkmO0

If you haven’t realized how down to earth former NCAA champ and NBA star Jay Williams is by now, then you haven’t been paying attention. I love it when Williams appears on ESPN’sΒ First Take. His takes are honest and he doesn’t allow himself to get bullied by Stephen A. Smith. Williams is spot on yet again.
Several NBA players, like Karl-Anthony Towns, have been harshly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. They are humans. Wealth might give them more access to treatment, but it can’t prevent them or their families from getting ill. We are all in the same lane as far as that goes. On the other hand, these guys are in no position to be complaining about the lifestyle they’re living during the pandemic. They are living in a multi-billion-dollar bubble at Disney World. Almost a third of Americans have never even been to Disney World. Even those who have don’t typically get paid to go there.
Jay Williams has been a great ambassador for the NBA during the pandemic. I won’t ever criticize someone for having a good time, but these players need to be more mindful of others who are less fortunate. A shelter in place can’t get much better than an exclusive bubble inside Disney World. More players should follow The Hammer’s lead. He’s smashing beers like a champion. More importantly, he isn’t concerned about the food or the amenities. Rondo can go right ahead and complain. Meanwhile, Meyers Leonard will be playing Call of Duty, shotgunning beers and eating protein bars.
