It is now being reported that ESPN made their decision on Max Kellerman because Stephen A. Smith had enough of him being his co-host.

Per Andrew Marchand of The NY Post:

“Since he has become a giant in the industry, his moves reverberate. Smith has wanted Kellerman off ‘First Take’ for years. Though it wasn’t personal, according to sources, Kellerman has a ‘smartest guy in the room’ attitude, and Smith wanted more of a debating challenger. And ultimately, he wanted it to be him versus the world.”

Stephen A. Smith immediately refuted the claim that he wanted Max Kellerman off the show.

“Those reports of me disliking Max are an absolute lie. I actually got a lot of love for the guy,” Stephen A said.”If he stays on the show, so be it. If he departs, it will be because they have other things they want him to do.”

It sure looks like Stephen A. Smith will be happier working alongside someone other than Max Kellerman. Whether he’ll admit it or not…
