Kyler Murray Puts In Trademark Request for ‘Hail Murray, Murray Magic’

All Hail Murray. Kyle Murray is quickly becoming one of the NFL’s biggest stars, and it didn’t hurt that he completed a magical game-winning pass to DeAndre Hopkins last week against the Buffalo Bills as time expired.  It was a textbook Hail Mary from Magic Murray.

So why not try to capitalize off of the now famous play?

Murray has filed paperwork to register for federal trademark protection for the catchphrases “Hail Murray” and “Magic Murray,” according to the Arizona Republic.

The filing, made at the bequest of K1 Promotions, LLC, wasn’t the only trademark Murray and Co. applied for this past Monday. The Murray media machine also forwarded the proper paperwork to the USPTO to own the trademark phrase “Murray Magic.”

According to the filings, a copy of which was obtained by The Republic, the nature of obtaining the trademarks are for future apparel purposes, namely hats, visors, caps, shirts, shorts, hoodies and other types of clothing. The registration also states the phrases will be used on a website that features information relating to the “accomplishments, exploits and biography of a professional football player.”

Both applications are pending, but they almost certainly will be granted to Murray, according to trademark lawyer Josh Gerben of Gerben Law in Washington, D.C. It’s not like Gary from Glendale or Tilly from Tempe can file a trademark request for “Hail Murray” or “Murray Magic” and expect it to be granted to them over Murray.

You must strike while the iron is hot and, right now, the iron is as hot as a sunburn. If Kyler Murray can stay healthy, expect him to be a mainstay for years. His connection with DeAndre Hopkins should thrive, although they may never top this Hail Mary.

Kyler Murray is like Russell Wilson 2.0, but smaller. Now he might get paid like one.
