Falcons Interim Coach Raheem Morris Is Making His Case

When Raheem Morris took over for Dan Quinn mid-season, nobody gave him a chance. We all just figured he would be a lame-duck for this season, and Atlanta would move on after the year.

We may have been very wrong.

Raheem Morris can coach, and in his first six games, he is making that very clear. The Falcons are now 4-2 since Morris took took over at head coach. He also just completely mopped the floor with Jon Gruden and the entire Raiders coaching staff. The Falcons upset the Raiders, winning 43-6.

Who would have seen Raheem Morris’ success with the Falcons coming? This was a team that was an absolute laughingstock at the beginning of the season. Now? They’re turning into a team that nobody should want to play.

Matt Ryan credited Morris for creating a winning culture inside the Falcons locker room.

“I gotta give Raheem a lot of credit,” Ryan says. “He’s done a great job of keeping everyone tight-knit and focused on finding a way to win week-in and week-out.”

Matt Ryan isn’t the only one who seems to be buying into Raheem Morris. Falcons fans appear to be coming around to the idea of removing the “interim” tag on coach Morris.

What Did You Miss on Sideaction This Week?

It remains to be seen whether the Falcons will give Raheem Morris a look at being their long-term head coach. I think he’s shown enough to put himself in that conversation, though. If Morris doesn’t get the job, he should get head coaching interviews elsewhere. It was no small task to completely turn the Falcons season around after an 0-5 start, and he has done just that.

Hell, I’d take Raheem Morris in Chicago to be the next head coach of my Bears.
