Ezekiel Elliott Attempts To Explain His Sub-Par Opening Week Performance

If you were hoping to see a rejuvenated version of Ezekiel Elliott this season, his performance against the Buccaneers last week wasn’t the sign you were looking for.

After all the noise about how much better shape Elliott was in this year, the star running back looked like the same version of himself who set career lows in 2020.

During the thriller against the Bucs, Ezekiel Elliott had 11 carries for just 33 yards to go along with two receptions for six yards.

But when speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Elliott claimed that the stats don’t paint the whole story.

“You can have a solid game without statistics,” he said. “If people don’t understand that they should probably study the game more”

Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore backed Ezekiel Elliott’s sentiment, saying that he was very good in protection while also pointing to the fact that the Bucs have one of the best run defenses in the NFL.

But with all of that being said, Elliott had a chance to quiet his haters on National TV last Thursday night, and he failed to do so.

Luckily for him, Dak Prescott was electric, and nearly led the Cowboys to an upset win over the defending champs. But for Dallas to reach their goals in 2021, they’ll need Ezekiel Elliott’s performances to show up on the stat sheet.
