As NFL Draft Approaches Potential New Trade Partner Emerges For Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield is still waiting for his request to be granted.

The former starting QB for the Cleveland Browns is trying to get a fresh start for a new team. Mayfield became expendable when the Browns decided to trade for Deshaun Watson. Now it’s a waiting game for Baker, as his contract makes it difficult for the Browns to unload him.

Now it appears a new trade partner has emerged. According to Bleacher Report, the Atlanta Falcons would be the most likely team to deal for Mayfield outside of the Seahawks.

The report added the Falcons would have to part ways with pick No. 58 in the second round and pick No. 190 in the sixth round in order to obtain Mayfield.

“Atlanta is a perfect spot to develop a quarterback who could sit for a year and learn under Mayfield and Mariota.

The Falcons have nine selections in the upcoming draft, which could help Cleveland get a decent return for its unwanted quarterback. If Atlanta is interested in Mayfield, the Browns could ask for the team’s additional picks in the second and sixth rounds.

A second-round pick should be the most valuable return the Browns should request in any negotiations surrounding Mayfield, and they might squeeze one out of Atlanta in the best-case scenario.”

Anyone who really needs a QB, which at this point is far and few between, could also just wait for the Browns to release Mayfield. If the Browns want to get something in return for Baker they’re going to have to commit to covering a portion of his $18.9 million salary for the 2022 NFL season.

Either way it sounds like this is going to be a tough road for Baker.

From QB1 to QB NONE.
