Even though Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors were bounced in the NBA play-in tournament prior to the playoffs, the Golden State forward is still keeping a watchful eye on the NBA Playoffs. And Draymond does not like what he’s seeing from fans in the stands.
So far, we’ve seen a fan spit of Trae Young, Kyrie Irving get a water bottle thrown at him, Russell Westbrook get popcorn tossed on him, fans interrupting the action to run on the court, etc.
While making an appearance on Shaquille O’Neal’s “The Big Podcast,” Draymond Green called out the NBA for not protecting their players.
“The NBA has taken it so far left to where a guy says ‘f— you,’ and you say ‘f— you’ back, you’ll get fined,” Green said. “It’s like, where is the protection for the players?”
Draymond Green continued.
“Now when you see all these instances where there’s actual spit, or there’s a water bottle thrown this close to Kyrie [Irving]’s face, where there’s popcorn poured on [Russell Westbrook], then it’s like, ‘oh man, maybe we do need to protect the players.’ No, you should have been protecting the players.”
Is Draymond Green Right?
Some of the fans who were found acting out of control at games have been banned from their stadiums. But what does that even mean? How is stadium security going to single out one fan from ever entering an arena again? Seems like an impossible thing to police.
I’m with Draymond Green here. The NBA needs send a clearer message to fans who harm players on the court during a game. Because the punishments we’re seeing right now simply aren’t working.
