Would the Raiders look to move Derek Carr this offseason?
The star quarterback is coming off a stellar season, which let to his first trip to the postseason. But there will be a lot of turnover in the team’s building.
Vegas announced this week that they were parting ways with general manager, Mike Mayock. And they’re also reportedly looking to interview head coach candidates (which would leave interim coach Rich Bisaccia out of a job). All of this would leave open the possibility that a new regime would want to bring in younger players to build around. And the best way to do that might be to look into trading Derek Carr.
When speaking on the possibility Tuesday, NFL.com‘s Marc Sessler pointed to the Colts as a likely suitor if the QB were to become available.
“Colts owner Jim Irsay telegraphed his distrust in Carson Wentz when he penned a letter to fans,” Sessler says. ‘We ended our season in perhaps the worst way possible and missed our chance to compete for history,’ [Irsay] wrote, before adding: ‘The buck stops with me.’”
“Wentz and the Colts feel destined for Splitsville,” Sessler continued. “But the quarterback market lacks juice. An available Carr would vibe with Frank Reich, a masterful coach searching for a long-term answer under center ever since Andrew Luck turned into a Force ghost before the 2019 campaign.”

Derek Carr finished the season with a career-high 4,804 yards passing with 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. But perhaps the most respectable aspect of Carr’s season was his ability to pull the team together despite all the turmoil they endured during the year.
The Colts have been looking for an answer under center ever since Andrew Luck’s surprise retirement. And after Philip Rivers also retired, the Carson Wentz experiment didn’t exactly go according to plan in 2022.
To bring Derek Carr to Indy would be a major upgrade. But would it be worth the price for a Colts team that’s been stuck in mediocrity for the past few seasons?
