Ciara and Russell Wilson Donate $1.75M to Fund Seattle Charter High School

Russell Wilson continues his MVP Season. And on Wednesday, Ciara and Russell Wilson announced they are donating $1.75 million from their charitable foundation to support a charter school in Des Moines, Washington, just south of Seattle.

The public high school will open in 2021 under the name Why Not You Academy, a nod to the name of the  celebrity couple’s foundation.  The Academy will specifically offer access to high-quality education for students currently under-served in their local communities.

In a statement, the Seattle Seahawks quarterback and the recording artist shared: ‘We’ve always held the belief that life’s successes start with a good education, but recognize that access isn’t always created equally for all.’

They went on: ‘The Why Not You Foundation was created with the concept of empowering youth to lead with a why not you attitude and that’s why it was important for our foundation… to help open doors for kids from less fortunate backgrounds.’

The couple said they hope this will be the first of many Why Not You Academy sites across the country. Great work Russ and Ciara.
