Aaron Rodgers Gets Brutally Honest About His Decision To Step Down As Player Rep

Aaron Rodgers did everything he could to get his teammates to vote against the proposed collective bargaining agreement. Unfortunately, things didn’t go exactly as Rodgers had planned. As the team’s player rep, he tried his best to defeat the proposal, however, it ended up narrowly passing. With Aaron Rodgers still not pleased with the way things ultimately panned out, he decided to step down as the team’s player rep. The Packers QB recently spoke out on his decision after the new reps were announced.

Aaron Rodgers felt that his vote against the agreement was protecting himself, his teammates, and all others who play in the NFL. His decision to step down as the player rep after the proposal went through was somewhat controversial within the Packers organization. Check out his response below.

“I think from last season, negotiating without a current player in the room, and then the things that happened in Indy and the way that the vote went, I wasn’t real excited about it. I wanted to get involved in an important year, because I thought it was a good look for the union. I can’t say I was heavily involved. I came in to some of the meetings late at the combine, but I think it’s time for somebody else to take that role who wants to spend a week of their life sitting in meetings and going through all that. To me, it’s just not what I want to do at this point in my career.”

Many will question Aaron Rodgers’ leadership in light of his decision. However, it doesn’t make much sense for Rodgers to continue to do that job if it is ultimately taking too much time away from his job as the starting quarterback. Hopefully, the Packers’ new reps, led by kicker Mason Crosby, are ready to take the helm.
