Deadline – After a towering rating success on the Michael Jordan 10-part documentary The Last Dance, ESPN is working with Tom Brady and Religion of Sports on Man In The Arena, a nine-episode multi-platform series coming in 2021. The focus will be on another GOAT for his sport: Brady himself. The series will be Brady’s first-hand account of the most iconic moments of his NFL career, including each of his nine Super Bowl appearances as quarterback of the New England Patriots. Also in there will be smaller, seemingly insignificant instances that became pivotal events and paved the path of the future Hall of Famer’s journey, which takes a new chapter after his move to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
2021 feels like a long time away given these last two months that have felt like three years. But ESPN seems to recognize the massive market for documentaries based on transcendent sports stars and Tom Brady is a logical candidate. Tom Brady lacks some of the mystery that Michael Jordan maintained over the years given the fact that we’ve known about his personal life, been beaten over the head with his off-field strifes like Deflategate and even watched him weirdly make out with his son at some point.
But with Brady in a new locale and some unanswered questions about his Patriots departure, Man in the Arena‘s deep dive into Brady lore may end up as interesting in his own way. Especially if Brady really flexes his muscles in Tampa Bay. With that roster and coaching scheme, Brady will step into a Ferrari that could lead a competent driver to all sorts of records at age 42. Jameis Winston drove the car last season and still clocked 150 mph times while occasionally flying off the cliff like Thelma and Louise. If Brady puts up a more efficient version of Jameis’ 5,100 yards with more touchdowns and wins, it’ll officially be marked as a first round knockout of Tom in his ongoing battle versus time.
Here’s hoping with the advanced lead time that they’re able to work in some details about how Tom Brady solved COVID-19 with his $45 immunity supplements. The quarterback position hasn’t seen such scientific innovation since Dan Marino learned how to single-handedly cure cold hands for all of his teammates:
