New Report Sheds Light On Browns’ Plans For Baker Mayfield

Will Baker Mayfield really be on the Browns’ roster come opening week of the upcoming NFL season?

For a while now, we’ve been expecting the Browns to trade the former first overall pick. But as teams have made other plans for their quarterback situations, Baker has been left high and dry, for now.

However, even thought Baker Mayfield undoubtedly wants a shot on another team, it appears as though the Browns have no plans to cut the young QB.

Per Mary Kay Cabot Of Cleveland.Com:

“If the Panthers and Seahawks are waiting for the Browns to cut Baker Mayfield so they can get him on the cheap, they better not hold their breath.

The Browns have no plans to cut Mayfield, even if he’s still on the roster at the start of training camp in July, a league source tells cleveland.com.

With Mayfield under contract for a fully-guaranteed $18.86 million, it makes no sense for the Browns to cut him and take the entire hit. They’ll subtract whatever he makes from his next team from that amount, but it wouldn’t make much of a dent.”

So far, the two teams that remain linked to Baker Mayfield are the Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks. But neither seem too interested in taking on any of his current salary with the Browns.

We appear to be at a bit of a stalemate with the Mayfield situation, and perhaps the Browns feel they’d be best suited to wait for a team to pounce after an injury occurs.

This whole Baker Mayfield situation in Cleveland could drag on for a while.
