Pete Carroll Gives Timeline For Seahawks Quarterback Decision

Will it be Drew Lock or Geno Smith?

The Seattle Seahawks will soon need to decide on who their starting quarterback will be for Week 1, and Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll may have tipped us off the decision if forthcoming. Carroll hinted over the weekend that they may wait until the last minute to decide on whether Geno Smith or Drew Lock will get the job. Lock was unable to play in Thursday night’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to COVID. Smith started for the second straight game and went 10/18 for 112 yards. The Seahawks were not able to score any points while he was in the game. Carroll was asked over the weekend when he plans to name a starting quarterback, and he said he still wants to see Lock play before he can make any final decisions.

Pete Carroll confirms Seahawks don't have to determine QB1 by end of final preseason game Friday at Dallas. 16 days from then to opener. Carroll says they may use all that time to decide between Geno Smith, Drew Lock.

It sounds like Lock by not playing has gained a slight advantage over Geno Smith. Seahawks fans are used to having their QB situation a  lot more secure, but Russell Wilson was traded to the Broncos in  the offseason. This is definitely a rebuilding year of sorts for the Seahawks.

Geno Smith played as Wilson’s backup, but he didn’t see too much action. Gino has thrown 34 touchdowns compared to 37 interceptions during his career, nothing to get too excited over. Lock has thrown  25 touchdowns compared to 20 interceptions during his three NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos.  One thing’s for sure no matter who ends up with the starting job, this year is going to be brutal.
