New York Jets Owner Woody Johnson Under Investigation For Alleged Racist And Misogynist Comments

New York Jets’ new owner Woody Johnson is being investigated by the State Dept. over alleged racist and misogynist comments to members of his staff. Johnson, who is also the U.S. ambassador to the U.K., has a pretty extensive list of allegations against him regarding racially or sexually insensitive remarks.  CNN reports that the recent incidents were reported to the office of the Inspector General.

Here we go again. Unfortunately, a billionaire NFL owner accused of being a racist and a sexist is not something we haven’t heard before. Johnson was appointed ambassador to the U.K. in 2017 and is the heir to the Johnson & Johnson empire. He famously purchased the NY Jets in the year 2000 for $635 million. Now he becomes part of the growing list of NFL owners who have been accused of racially and sexually inappropriate actions.

Here is a brief list of some of the allegations…

In 2018, Johnson allegedly made racist remarks before an event for Black History Month. CNN reports he “appeared agitated and asked if the audience would be ‘a whole bunch of Black people?'” Several different sources told CNN that Johnson openly questioned the need for Black History Month and argued that Black fathers didn’t remain with their families and that was the “real challenge”.

Johnson has also been accused of making several offensive statements directed towards women during his time as ambassador. Most of the remarks were centered around physical appearance.

One source reported, at certain public events, Johnson would preface his remarks by going into detail about how many pretty women were present. Essentially, he was reducing them to bodies to be counted like sexual objects. The CNN source did not give any direct quotes but said some of Johnson’s rhetoric was “absolutely cringe-worthy”.

The State Dept. did not comment on the status of the current investigation. However, they told CNN that Woody Johnson is a “valued member of the team who has led Mission UK honorably and professionally.”

Hmmm. Clearly not.
