Is Bill Belichick setting the Patriots up for disaster this season by allowing defensive-minded Matt Patricia to call plays for the offense?
This week, some damning reports about the Patriots offense (specifically quarterback Mac Jones) struggling all throughout Training Camp went viral.

This offseason, the Patriots lost longtime offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels when he took the head coaching gig for the Las Vegas Raiders. And instead of doing the normal thing and bringing on another offensive mind to take on the role McDaniels held down, Bill Belichick has indicated that he’s likely going to be using defensive-minded Matt Patricia to call the offensive plays.
When the news about the Patriots offense in Training Camp hit the web, Belichick and Patricia were thrown straight under the bus.

We have the 'Patriots starters' in blue and 'Patriots backups' in white.
Matt Patricia is running the offense on the blue team with Mac Jones.
Joe Judge is running the offense on the white team with Bailey Zappe.
That says it all.

Back in May, Bill Belichick was unsurprisingly reserved when asked who will be calling the offense this season.
“I’ve called them and I haven’t called them,” Belichick said at the time. “Other people have called them and haven’t called them. We’ll see.”
In year one under center, Mac Jones impressed. But it could be an incredible drop off if he’s saddled with Matt Patricia as his primary coach.
For the past 20 years, we’ve considered Belichick’s Patriots operation as the “gold standard” of the NFL, so it’s pretty bizarre to see them be so heavily ridiculed all of the sudden.
Still, Patriots fans have to have a little bit of trust in Belichick’s ability to get the most out of a young QB. But it’s most definitely a head-scratcher that he’s decided to go with Matt Patricia for his offense.
Could this season really be a complete disaster in New England?
