Jack Del Rio Doubles-Down On His Controversial January 6 Tweet

Washington Commanders defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio has been at the center of controversy following his tweet about the Jan.6 riot at the Capitol Building.

Specifically, Del Rio thinks it’s wrong that we continue to lament the events of that day, but not the previous Summer when riots and looting ran rampant all over the country.

“Would love to understand ‘the whole story’ about why the summer of riots, looting, burning and the destruction of personal property is never discussed but this is ???” Del Rio asked.

During minicamp on Wednesday, Jack Del Rio had a chance to walk back his comments. But he decided to lean into his take even more.

“I can look at images on the TV, people’s livelihoods are being destroyed, businesses are being burned down, no problem. And then we have a dust up at the Capitol, nothing burned down, and we’re going to make that a major deal,” Del Rio said.

When the Washington Commanders were asked about the Jack Del Rio comments, they offered “no comment”.

We could probably go back and forth on whether or not Del Rio’s comments have any merit for a while But at the end of the day, he’s a football coach who likely has a good portion of his players looking at him in a different light now.

We’ll see where this Jack Del Rio situation goes. But I can’t imagine that he won’t face any backlash from people around the league.
