It’s safe to say that Matt Nagy didn’t come as the quarterback whisperer he was advertised as in Chicago.
During his four-year stint as Bears head coach, Nagy worked with the revolving door of Mitchell Trubisky, Nick Foles, Andy Dalton and Justin Fields as his quarterback. And none of them were able to move the ball with much of any efficiency.
In Justin Fields’ rookie season, he also struggled in Matt Nagy’s system. But that didn’t stop the former Bears head coach from giving high praise of the young QB in a recent comment.
“Justin Fields has it. He has everything. He is the real deal. They got the right guy and he will be a star in this league,” Nagy said via NFL reporter Kyle Brandt.
During an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, @KyleBrandt said that he talked to former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy and Nagy told him that "Justin Fields has it. He has everything. He is the real deal. They got the right guy and he will be a star in this league."

Some Bears fans hilariously noted that Matt Nagy’s comments made them feel differently about Justin Fields… in a bad way.
Oh, Noted moron Matt Nagy thinks Justin fields will be good? Not feeling good about this https://t.co/dwAZuOHqlX

Hmm. Does this make me feel better or worse about Fields? My feelings are confused. Maybe McNagy can assess talent but not develop it question mark.

Now, Justin Fields will have a new offensive system to learn for Year 2 after Packers quarterback coach Luke Getsy was hired by the bears to be their new OC and play-caller.
As for Matt Nagy, he went straight back to the Kansas City Chiefs to be their QB coach, where he’ll have the much easier job of working with Patrick Mahomes.
Nagy decided to go to classy route when speaking on his time with Justin Fields. But perhaps Bears fans wish he wouldn’t have…
