‘Unofficial’ Front Runner Has Emerged in Kevin Durant Sweepstakes

This feels like the same story every day.

Facts, Kevin Durant wants out of Brooklyn.  The only problem with that is the Nets don’t want to get rid of him for just anyone, what they want in return is major talent. There lies the issue, not many teams are looking to unload a roster of young talent in order to land a 34 year old prickly star. As Durant continues to speak out on Twitter regarding retirement rumors, the Nets brass are reportedly working to get a deal done.  That deal is supposedly with the Boston Celtics,  who once again are the frontrunners to land Durant.  The holdup before was the Celtics not looking to part ways with Jaylen Brown.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, there is a frontrunner to land Durant.

“Among the executives with whom I spoke, a Boston deal with Jaylen Brown as the centerpiece appears to be the unofficial front-runner here”

This report just so happened to come out on the very same day that Kevin Durant was spotted practicing with Jayson Tatum, which is sure to fuel speculation even further.

Now that the Celtics have reportedly offered their 2nd “Star” as part of a deal for Kevin Durant, the Nets are reportedly only entertaining trade offers involving other teams’ 2nd best players.

This should help them gauge the trade market to ensure they get the best players in exchange for KD. KD and Tatum would be amazing, but Durant hasn’t proven outside of the Warriors that he can actually win. Another question is would KD be comfortable taking a back seat to Tatum, who has clearly emerged as one of the NBA’s best young players.

One thing’s for sure, KD will be better off anywhere but Brooklyn.
