Marcus Stroman Calls Out Politicians Following Latest Gun Violence

Add Chicago Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman to the long list of athletes calling out politicians to create change following all the recent attacks.

Talking about one of many police shootings, Stroman slammed politicians who continue to do very little to make sure heartbreaking instances such as these don’t occur again in the future.

“America continuing to go backward,” tweeted Stroman this week.

Marcus Stroman has been one of the more outspoken athletes on social media, and embraces the criticism that comes along with that.

“I tweeted out the other day about women, that it’s their body, their choice,” he said of his response to the Supreme Court overturning five decades of abortion-rights precedent via NBC Sports Chicago. “You should see my DMs.”

Still, Marcus Stroman doesn’t think his viewpoints should be all too controversial. And after the Highland Park July 4th mass shooting, the pitcher was at a loss.

“I feel like I truly take the common-sense side,” said Stroman, a Duke graduate who grew up in Medford, N.Y., across Long Island Sound from the site of the Sandy Hook school shooting. “But now I’m starting to realize that’s really not common sense in this country.

“The older I get I start to realize how this country thinks and the type of individuals that we have in this country,” he added, “and I truly don’t think we’re anywhere close to change. I really don’t.”

Marcus Stroman has been sidelined with an injury for a long time now. But he’s set to make his return to the mound against the Dodgers tonight.
