Fernando Tatis Jr. Finally Apologizes For PED Suspension, Announces Surgery Plans Amid The Unexpected Break

San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. is finally showing remorse after being slapped with an 80 game suspension after testing positive for anabolic steroid clostebol.

“There is no one else to blame but myself. I made a mistake,” Tatis said to ESPN. “I’m truly sorry. I have let so many people down. I have lost so much love from people. I have failed. I’m going to remember what this feels like, and I’m not going to put myself in this position ever again. I know I have a lot of love that I have to recover. I have a lot of work to do, it will be a very long process. I’m learning, I’m maturing.”

Tatis would go on to say that he’ll be undergoing shoulder surgery during his time away from baseball.

Right after being hit with the ban, Fernando Tatis Jr. blamed the skin condition, ringworm, for taking a substance he wasn’t aware was banned by the MLB.

“It turns out that I inadvertently took a medication to treat ringworm that contained Clostebol,” the original statement said, in part. “I should have used the resources available to me in order to ensure that no banned substances were in what I took. I failed to do so. I want to apologize to Peter, AJ, the entire Padres organization, my teammates, Major League Baseball, and fans everywhere for my mistake. I have no excuse for my error, and I would never do anything to cheat or disrespect the game I love.”

Now, the Padres will be left without Fernando Tatis Jr. after going all-in at the Trade Deadline, and it’ll be a long road back before he regains the trust of his teammates and organization again.

This apology was a good start, though.
