Yankees GM Brian Cashman Has More Disappointing News For Fans

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has been ridiculed by his fan base for the uncharacteristically-mild offseason. And now, he’s got some bad news about star player Aaron Judge.

With Opening Day today for The Bronx Bombers, Cashman faced the media — where he revealed that the team was not reaching an extension with Judge in his last year on contract.

“Not now, but hopefully later,” Cashman said when The Athletic asked about extension news.

Shortly after that revelation, the final contract offer the Yankees sent Aaron Judge was revealed by ESPN insider Jeff Passan.

Aaron Judge spoke on the stalemate in extension talks when speaking to reporters on Friday.

“I’m not gonna get into it right now,” Judge said. “I think Cashman will have an update for you guys, but I got a game to focus on right now. So if it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, I’ll see you guys after the game and we’ll talk about that. I think we’ll have a better update after the game.”

When pushed further, Judge re-iterated that he wasn’t going to be talking about, and he’s not open to talk about a new contract once the season begins.

“This is the deadline. If it doesn’t get done, then we’ll work on the one-year arbitration deal and move on from there,” Judge said. “This is it. I don’t want to be a distraction during the year; we got so many things to focus on, you know, a lot of good things happening, and I don’t want this to be a distraction for the team all year. After a good series, a good month, more talks … a bad series, a bad month … ‘should’ve signed that extension’ or something like that.”

He added: “Opening Day is not done. First pitch is that 1:08. Today’s the deadline. So we’ll be talking about an extension or no extension, and we’ll be done with it and get on to baseball.”

Aaron Judge and Brian Cashman appear to be drastically apart in their view of the outfielder’s value. And he’ll be set to become an unrestricted free agent this Winter.

Nothing happening in the Yankees organization right now feels very on-brand…
