The University of Alabama Is Basically A Coronavirus Petri Dish

Just one week into classes and The University of Alabama has reported over 560 coronavirus cases in Tuscaloosa. Rolllllllll Tide (Stephen A. Smith voice)! Yikes. Apparently that figure doesn’t even include entry testing, which the main campus reported 310 positive cases. When Kevin Warren canceled the Big Ten Football season, I said that the SEC would do whatever is in their power to play football. But this looks pretty grim for Alabama and the South.

Surely this has absolutely nothing to do with the students being in close proximity and going out to bars, right? I mean this is kind of a joke to me. Not that COVID is a joke, but this is just sad. The University of Alabama is the Miami Marlins of public Universities. They couldn’t even stay clean for one full week of action. Honestly, I expected it to be a Florida school to come out with the first big COVID positive list, but I can’t say I am surprised it was Alabama.

So what does this mean for the status of SEC football? Regardless of the Alabama blunder, the SEC will still do everything in their power to play. I mean, football is the only thing The University of Alabama is good for. Is there any other reason to go there? Lmk, asking for a friend. Whatever happens in the future, this is not a great start for the SEC or for public schools. I want college football more than anyone. But Alabama may have been the last straw. I will stay optimistic about football at the college level. But not really.
