Stephen A. Smith Sounds Very Conflicted When Talking About Deshaun Watson Lawsuits

The Deshaun Watson allegations have caught many people off guard. Today, the total number of sexual assault lawsuits filed against the Texans quarterback reached 14, and there is likely to be more coming out in the coming days.

On ESPN’s “First Take” today, Stephen A. Smith shared his thoughts on the whole Deshaun Watson Matter. Well, he kind of sounded like he didn’t really know what to think. He starts by saying the NFL should do more than ‘investigate’ Deshaun, before adding that we can’t jump to conclusions before the whole case plays out.

Stephen A. also feels the need to bring up the fact that the Houston Texans have to pay Deshaun Watson until he’s proven guilty.

“The NFL saying we’re investigating the matter is not good enough, but you certainly don’t want to convict him in court of public opinion when criminal charges have not been field,” Smith said. “If he gets put on the commissioner’s exempt list, chances are the Houston Texans would still have to pay his $10 million salary for next season.

“Houston would have the license to cut him. I don’t support that. Until you prove he’s guilty, don’t take the money out of his pocket. Taking him off the field is one thing. He has not been found guilty of anything.”

Stephen A. Smith kind of sounds wholly unprepared to speak on this matter. Why do we care about the Houston Texans decision on cutting him? Or financial implications? Right now, all anyone needs to do is listen to the accusers and let the facts come out.

Stephen A. Smith is thinking way to down the road for me.
