Robert Saleh’s Comments On Zach Wilson’s Performance In First Scrimagge Leaves Jets Fans Concerned

The early reports out of Jets Training Camp is that first round quarterback Zach Wilson has been pretty good al things considered.

But that wasn’t the story during the team’s first scrimmage on Saturday. The Jets held a scrimmage at MetLife Stadium, and Wilson didn’t look game ready.

Zach Wilson threw two interceptions and led the Jets offense to just three points over the course of the entire game.

On Monday, Jets head coach Robert Saleh Spoke on Zach Wilson’s performance.

“For most rookies, it’s going to get worse before it gets better,” Saleh said. “It is what it is. There’s a lot of things that happen. There’s a reason why being a rookie is hard in this league.

“There was a Hall of Famer yesterday that was inducted that had a 71 quarterback rating his rookie year. It’s not easy to play quarterback in this league as a rookie. Especially quarterback. It is going to get worse before it gets better.”

The Jets drafted Zach Wilson with the second overall pick in the NFL Draft after the young, dynamic quarterback took college football by storm with his ability to create plays with his legs. But taking over a Jets team with so many glaring holes is likely going to be a different story.

We can’t read too much into one scrimmage, but Robert Saleh is definitely bracing Jets fans for the likelihood that Wilson is going to endure some growing pains during his first season.

Zach Wilson could very well be the franchise quarterback the Jets desperately need, but patience is going to be necessary while he goes through the development process.
