Report: Los Angeles Rams Considered Favorite to Sign Odell Beckham

Is OBJ getting ready to run it back?

As NFL Free Agent Odell Beckham Jr. inches closer to recovering from his ACL injury and joining a team, one team has the edge on signing the electric receiver. Most NFL executives believe Beckham will ultimately rejoin the Los Angeles Rams, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. The Rams have maintained good relations with Beckham and are familiar with his physical health, and he already has a rapport with Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay. The team also has the cap space to make Beckham a competitive offer.

“Some of the team execs and coaches we’ve talked to believe he’ll be ready to sign sometime in mid-November. They also wonder whether that timeline is close enough to the end of the regular season that he might sit out the year to ensure complete health in 2023.

“Wherever he goes will most likely be with a top quarterback,” an AFC executive said. “He has that luxury, and why waste time with anything else?”

Most teams with great passers have a few million dollars to spare, or at least can create cap space this year. That begs the question, though: What type of contract will Beckham seek? He could do a one-year deal with high incentives to set the stage for free agency re-up next March, or he could sign a two-year deal with high earning power in 2023, plus a decent signing bonus. Teams most likely want to see him prove he’s back before committing, however.”

Beckham joined the Los Angeles Rams last season and caught five touchdowns in eight regular season games. He added two more in the playoffs before suffering his knee injury in the Super Bowl.

The Rams have started off 2-3, which may be a detractor for signing OBJ. However, they have saved him a locker room spot, which may just be enough to sway him back.
