Sean Payton Comments on Taysom Hill Gives Away His Timeline to Return to Coaching

Is Sean Payton ready for his big return?

The former New Orleans Saints Head Coach is expected to return to coaching in the NFL at some point down the road, and he seemingly gave away his timeline when talking about one of his former players. Payton was a guest on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” on Monday. During the appearance Payton talked about the huge game that Taysom Hill had in the New Orleans Saints’ 39-32 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Hill accumulated112 yards and three touchdowns on Nine carries. Payton, who always loved Taysom  Hill, says he told Saints general manager Mickey Loomis that he will gladly take Hill off his hands in “a year or two” if New Orleans does not want to pay the former BYU star.

That comment is definitely pretty telling. Clearly Sean Payton still loves Taysom Hill as a player. Payton was behind the Saints signing Hill to a four-year, $40 million extension last year. Many people thought he got paid way too much for a specialist,  though it is structured in a way that makes sense given Hill’s unique set of skills.

What was even more interesting about Payton’s remark is that he seemingly plans to return to coaching in 2023 or 2024.

Payton will command a record breaking contract, and will most likely want as much control as possible. Should be interesting to see where he lands.
