Patriots Sign Former NFL MVP Cam Newton On A One-Year Incentive-Laden Contract

Former Panthers quarterback and league MVP has signed with the Patriots and is no longer unemployed. The 31-year old quarterback has bounced back from a foot injury that ended his career in Carolina and will take the helm in New England.

Newton’s workout videos and passes to Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. clearly did not go unnoticed.

Belichick has done it. Just like that, the Patriots are contenders in the AFC yet again. The Patriots have controlled the AFC East for the past 11 seasons. There hasn’t been much of a challenge for New England in the east though. The reigning AFC East champs lost the division a mere three times since the turn of the century. Regardless, I like to think Cam Newton gives the Patriots a better chance than the likes of Jarrett Stidham. When healthy, there isn’t much Newton can’t do. I’m certain you all remember the game that essentially cemented his legacy, at least for Auburn fans.

Down 24 points near the end of the first half, Cam led the Tigers to a 28-27 victory over the Tide in the 2010 Iron Bowl. A game that is known today as “the Camback”. Newton has faced some criticism for his throwing accuracy, but there is no denying that he’s a playmaker. He’s 31, in great shape, and just five years removed from an MVP and super bowl season. Bill Belichick’s Patriot way and Josh McDaniels could be exactly what Cam needs to get his impressive career back on track.

Newton has some big shoes to fill as he will be taking over for Patriots all-time great, six-time super bowl champion, Tom Brady. He will be competing with 2019 fourth-round draft pick Jarrett Stidham and 11-year NFL veteran Brian Hoyer.  As long as he stays healthy, Cam will likely be the starting quarterback for the Patriots entering the 2020 NFL season. I don’t know about you, but I’m just happy Cam has a job in the NFL again. Next up, Colin Kaepernick.
